The Moto G5 Plus is the phablet version of the Moto G5. Successor to Moto G4 Plus without really being it, because in 2016 the Moto G4 Plus was particularly close to the Moto Z Play. However, unlike the Moto G5, which looks like G4 Play, the G5 Plus takes up a mid-range platform, but sees its size opt for an intermediate positioning, between the Moto G5 and the Moto Z Play.
This translates into a 5.2-inch Full HD screen, slightly smaller than that of the Moto G4 Play. Its definition therefore reaches 424 pixels per inch, against 401 pixels per inch for the G4 Plus, a slight improvement due to the decrease in the surface of the panel. A Corning Gorilla 3 glass always covers the touch screen. The backlight technology remains the classic IPS. Below the screen we find, like the G5, a fingerprint reader, another sign of the improvement of the G range.
As for the chipset, the smartphone takes advantage, like last year, of a Snapdragon 6XX like the G4 Plus. The Snapdragon 617 of the latter is replaced by its successor, the Snapdragon 625, a mid-range octo-core composed of eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2 GHz (against 1.5 GHz for the 617) and an Adreno 506 GPU. The managed connections include WiFi n dual band, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS (Glonass), FM radio and LTE category 6. NFC is also present. No USB Type C on the other hand, but a good old microUSB 2.0.
